Reading Programs

The average cycle of each reading program is only a period of years. Using the reading program essential skills need to always be taught. Utilizing the reading programs, we can teach skills needed to develop emergent readers. We can teach fix up strategies and comprehension skills.
I have had numerous opportunities to teach during reading block and get acquainted with the current Scotts Foresman's Reading Street. These this program consists of weekly skills to be learned through stories, concept maps, word work, and small groups.
Other reading programs such as Accelerated Reader can be used to grow interest in reading. We can utilize the tests that are needed to be taken within the program to enhance comprehension. Within my classroom I will also implement interviewing my students' before the are allowed to take an AR test. This will allow for direct involvement in what their reading and being sure they read for comprehension. Reading Programs are merely tools to be used by the teacher to develop emergent readers. It is imperative that they have the skills necessary mastered.
